Anna to fight for land rights of poor in Guj
May 27, 2011, 07.14am IST TNN

AHMEDABAD: Social activist Anna Hazare promised to launch his movement for land rights of the poor from Gujarat, during a two-day visit to the city. On the second day of his visit on Thursday, he heard representations about providing land to projects such as special economic zones (SEZs) and special investment regions (SIRs), favouring a handful of industrialists and said that it would be appropriate to start the movement from the place from where the freedom struggle started.

NGO representatives at the public meet said that companies play crucial role in deciding the fate of the area and government support for it. Organisations from Kutch, Veraval and Vadodara narrated cases of chemical units, cement plants and pharma units that have been given privileges by the state government. Activists narrated case of struggle against Nirma plant in Mahuva where people demanding closure of the plant to save water resources were sent back by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi from Gandhinagar.

Arvind Kejriwal, RTI activist, said that when people talk about third world war over water, he sees civil war in India over land. "We have seen struggle over land going on in many parts of the country and I believe that it would be a case of civil unrest in the future if timely action is not taken," he said.

Activists told him about RTI, and the killing of activists like Amit Jethava and immolation of Jabbardan Gadhavi. A book on Gadhavi's struggle and subsequent findings of his case was released by Hazare and his associates on the occasion.

Swami Agnivesh said that while propaganda is all out about Vibrant Gujarat outside the state, the real picture could be known only after coming here. "It's an unequal development that does not benefit all. We will approach the government officials on the issues discussed and will demand an explanation," he said.

Hundreds came to meet Anna at Sardarbaug in the evening where he held his public meeting. In his meet, Anna appealed to youth to become strength of the nation. He also warned government to take action to implement Lokpal bill.

"If the bill is not implemented from August 15, I will again start my fight from Jantar Mantar," he said to the gathering.

Reasons Why Annaji And IAC supporting Medha Tai's Fast

For more Detailed Please read on http://khareastandolan.wordpress.com/

6th day of fast – A Government of ‘aashwaasan’

Aashwaasan‘. Assurance.
‘Don’t you trust us?’ they asked. We are camped in the debris of our lives. Our children are not reading books, they are learning slogans of resistance. Our RTIs, FIRs, Court Orders, Appeals, Letters written in blood – they all got crushed under the might of the bulldozer. And still they ask, ‘Don’t you trust us? We assure you we will take action…’
Medhatai is ailing, barely able to walk, but still on the 6th day of her fast she agreed to go to the Collector’s office to meet the Chief Secretary, Ratnakar Gaekwad. So we marched again, a thousand of us hopeful now, and waited below. More than 25 of us, representatives of slums across Mumbai, went on to discuss our issues with Chief Secretary, VP of MHADA - Satish Gawai, Suburban Collector – Nirmal Deshmukh and CEO of SRA – S.S Zende.
For over 4 hours, we showed them the rot that has spread in MHADA and the Builder’s lobby in Mumbai. Amongst other things, we wanted a new High Power Committee to be constituted to look into issues of displacement and corruption, with 4 representatives from the Civil Society (NAPM), and the Chief Secretary as Chairman. We were told of the High Court appointed Committee that is already in place since 2005 – the one that has held a full 3 meetings since then!
We asked for all bastis to be declared legal slums within 3 months and to stop all demolitions until then. We asked for a meeting to implement RAY (Rajiv Aawas Yojna) across all slums, so that everyone gets a chance to get a house without the involvement of a cut-off date. Our points were duly noted, but the Chief Secretary refused to make a time-bound agreement. He only gave us the assurance to act on our pleas. This coming from a man who is the head of more than 300 Committees…..We were told we were wasting his time by being so unreasonable, and made to leave.
Reason does slip a little, we admit, when one’s homes are broken down with such impunity. We want solutions, not empty promises. We want a government of action, not of assurances.

Day 5 ends, We still wait

We wait for them to realise the gravity of the situation. This is not about a few houses only. The government has to stop demolitions across Mumbai. They have to engage us in constructive discussions, which will stop the menace of the bulldozer and give all of us who live in bastis, a right to a house.
Instead, the CM sent the Collector Zende with a promise to delay demolitions at Ganesh Krupa, and a Joint Committee to look into the issues raised by Tai. Haven’t we heard all that before?
So we wait. Medhatai’s health is faltering, but not her spirit. So we offered the Collector some chai, and sent him on his way.

She’s losing health, we can see. 5 more of us sit with her again on a day’s fast. Representatives from other slums came and gave speeches, sang songs, gave us courage.
Mayank Gandhi from India against Corruption and Simantini Dhuru from Right to Education Campaign, Arundhati Dhuru, NAPM Uttar Pradesh, Kavita Srivastava, PUCL Rajasthan, Anuradha Talwar, Pashchim Bang Khet Majdoor Union, visited Golibar today to extend full support and solidarity to our cause, strongly condemned the atrocities meted out by the police, and the violation of human rights by the State.
Many eminent people like Kuldeep Nair, Anand Patwardhan, Justice Rajendra Sachar, Aruna Roy, Sandeep Pandey, Prashant Bhusan, Xavier Dais, Ashok Chaudhari and many others have called upon the government to immediately initiate action against the dubious role played by the Shivalik Ventures.
However, there’s no response from the government yet. In the evening, a few hundred of us set out on a march again, to warn the rest of the residents of Golibar about Shivalik builders, and urge them to stand up and fight.
Meanwhile, Tehelka has printed an investigation into the Politician-Builder nexus. A link to the article is below:

Read it. See how unchecked greed leads to a hammer on our doors. This is our appeal to you again, come stand with us, fight with us.

With Warm Regards,

THE GREAT INDIAN LOOT UNVEILS

Is India a poor Country? Revelation of Swiss Bank Accounts

This is so shocking. If black money deposits were an Olympics event, India would have won a gold medal hands down.

Ø Russia, the second best, has four times less deposit.

Ø US do not even figure in the top five!

Ø India has more money in Swiss banks than all the other countries combined!!!! !!!!

Recently, due to international pressure, the Swiss governmen t agreed to disclosed the names of the account holders, but only if the respective governmen ts formally asked for it. The Indian government is not asking for the details. No marks for guessing why!

We have started a movement in terms of Janlokpal to pressure the government to do so. This is perhaps the only way - and a golden opportuni ty - to expose the high and mighty and weed out corruption .

Please read on and forward to all honest Indians to build a ground-swell of support for action.

Is India poor? Ask Swiss banks with personal account deposit bank of $1500 billion in foreign reserve which have been misappropriate. Consideri ng that the amount is 13 times larger than the country's foreign debt, one need to rethink if India is indeed a poor country

Illegal personal accounts in foreign banks of dishonest industria lists, scandalou s politicia ns and corrupt IAS, IRS, IPS officers have a sum of around $ 1500 million - an amount about 13 times larger than the country's foreign debt. With this amount, 45 crore poor people can get Rs 1, 00,000 each.

This huge amount has been appropria ted from the people of India by exploitin g and betraying them.

Once this huge amount of black money comes back to India , the entire foreign debt can be repaid in 24 hours. After paying the entire foreign debt, we will have surplus amount, almost 12 times larger than the foreign debt. If this surplus amount is invested in earning interest, the amount of interest will be more than the annual budget of the Central governmen t. So even if all the taxes are abolished, then too the Central governmen t will be able to maintain the country very comfortab ly.erev without collecting taxes from the public it means the common man is becoming more richer ans independent to think on his own growth.

Some 80,000 people travel to Switzerla nd every year, of which 25,000 travel very frequentl y. 'Obviously, these people won't be tourists. They must be traveling there for some other reason,' believes an official involved in tracking illegal money. And, clearly, he isn't referring to the commerce ministry bureaucra ts who've been flitting in and out of Geneva ever since the World Trade Organizat ion (WTO) negotiati ons went into a tailspin!

Just read the following details and note how these dishonest industria lists, scandalou s politicia ns, corrupt officers, cricketer s, film actors, illegal ***** trade and protected wildlife operators, to name just a few, sucked this country's wealth and prosperit y. This may be the picture of deposits in Swiss banks only. What about other internati onal banks?

Black money in Swiss banks -- Swiss Banking Associati on report, 2006 details bank deposits in the territory of Switzerla nd by nationals of following countries:

Top Five:

1. India ---- $1,456 billion

2. Russia ---$ 470 billion

3. UK -------$390 billion

4. Ukraine - $100 billion

5. China -----$ 96 billion

Now do the math's - India with $1456 billion or $1.4 trillion has more money in Swiss banks than rest of the world combined.

Public loot since 1947: Can we bring back our money? It is one of the biggest loots witnessed by mankind -- the loot of the Aam Aadmi (common man) since 1947, by his brethren occupying public office.

It has been orchestra ted by politicia ns, bureaucra ts and some businessm en. The list is almost all-encompassing. No wonder, everyone in India loots with impunity and without any fear. What is even more depressin g in that this ill-gotten wealth of ours has been stashed away abroad into secret bank accounts located in some of the world's best known tax havens? And to that extent the Indian economy has been stripped of its wealth.

Ordinary Indians may not be exactly aware of how such secret accounts operate and what are the rules and regulatio ns that go on to govern such tax havens. However, one may well be aware of 'Swiss bank accounts,' the shorthand for murky dealings, secrecy and of course pilferage from developin g countries into rich developed ones.

In fact, some finance experts and economist s believe tax havens to be a conspirac y of the western world against the poor countries . By allowing the prolifera tion of tax havens in the 20th century, the western world explicitl y encourage s the movement of scarce capital from the developin g countries to the rich.

In March 2005, the Tax Justice Network (TJN) published a research finding demonstra ting that $11.5 trillion of personal wealth was held offshore by rich individua ls across the globe. The findings estimated that a large proportio n of this wealth was managed from some 70 tax havens. Further, augmentin g these studies of TJN, Raymond Baker -- in his widely celebrate d book titled 'Capitalis m' s Achilles Heel: Dirty Money and How to Renew the Free Market System' -- estimates that at least $5 trillion have been shifted out of poorer countries to the West since the mid-1970.

It is further estimated by experts that 1 % of the world's populatio n holds more than 57 % of total global wealth, routing it invariabl y through these tax havens. How much of this is from India is anybody's guess. What is to be noted here is that most of the wealth of Indians parked in these tax havens is illegitimate money acquired through corrupt means.

Naturally, the secrecy associate d with the bank accounts in such places is central to the issue, not their low tax rates as the term 'tax havens' suggests. Remember Bofors and how India could not trace the ultimate beneficia ry of those transacti ons because of the secrecy associate d with these bank accounts?

Is there anybody who can save India ? its a serious issue then we ever thought, even i suggest India Against Corruption's civil society members to get that list from this morons and publish on the web, rest of the things (to kick them out of the country after recovery) will be taken care by us (Citizens Of India).

Thanks With helping Hand

Did we respect the independance or we still need time

After 1947 we have spent almost 64 years and we still need time to make changes- we need time to think on getting back all our currencies in foreign banks,we need time to think on laws like janlokpal or not?, and thanks to Mr. Arvind kejriwal , Dr.Kiran bedi ,and all to find out exactly the need of janlokpal bill when they found the current system has problem, the laws are inadequate, else we was not knowing or if knowing was not keen/dare to make changes or raise voice because we need some more time to think on ,to grow and to act like a really Independent  nation, I am ashamed not because just we have corruption or they have looted our wealth but they have changed our mentality by making us slaves, free physically but mentally bound to follow the ill practices and do what we told to do.  they make us pay on every need, also to pay for every rights, we have rights but to use them we need to pay them extra,we have our own constitution but they make it so complicated that we can not understand that how to use it for our-self or country. every minister and officer swore to the constitution of India when he join the duties and more of them always mold it according to there use and requirement,I want to ask here Is it not the Insult of our Constitution, our country?,and is it not Insult of our own? ,why this people not suspended or questioned when they found in practicing something wrong on the basis or breach of oath? why we need some more profs and reasons to sent them to jail? is it not already a slap on our faces that he has insulted the constitution?, or we still need time to think that we have self respect or not even that?,
In every developed countries on top of every department you will find Indians, but they dont wont to work the same for India, because they need to face corruption and discomfort here, they dont get value of their work here, just think people the importance of #janlokpal once it comes in, we may get all our monetary and scholarly(the top intelligent Indians) wealth back to the country.as they will not find that problems again in future.

What do you think friends how much time Anna hazare and other activists need to strike for the nation ?, how much time @thekiranbedi ,annaji and Mr.kejrival with lot others need to travel for the country and give public lectures? is it not our country ? and our responsibility also to join hand in hand , I know the people is knows what to do now. but please from today take a pledge that we all will not sleep but will ask questions and demand explanations on every issue which is related to common interest of the nation, The rule of Britishers"Devide and Rule" is still being followed by the people whom we have elected. show them strength and power of people

Need- India against Corruption

About India Against Corruption

India Against Corruption is a citizen's movement to demand strong anti-corruption laws. Lokpal bills were introduced in 1968, 1971, 1977, 1985, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2005 and in 2008, yet they were never passed. After a fast by veteran social activist Anna Hazare and widespread protests by citizens across India the Government of India constituted a 10-member Joint Committee of ministers and civil society activists to draft an effective Jan Lokpal Bill.

Our Anti-corruption system needs a change

Why is it that no one goes to jail in our country despite indulging in corruption? This is because we have completely rotten anti-corruption laws and anti-corruption agencies that it is almost impossible for the corrupt to be penalized.

Jan Lokpal Bill is the solution

Justice Santosh Hegde (former Supreme Court Judge and present Lokayukta of Karnataka), Prashant Bhushan (Supreme Court Lawyer) and Arvind Kejriwal (activist) have together drafted a strong anti-corruption law called Jan Lokpal Bill which requires that investigations into any case should be completed within a year and the trial should get over in the next one year so that a corrupt person goes to jail within two years of complaint and his ill gotten wealth is confiscated.
